September 2010 saw the introduction of a Pilot linked pair GCSE course. The GCSEs are called MATHEMATICAL METHODS and APPLICATIONS OF MATHEMATICS.
More able pupils are entered early for these examinations.
The four main teaching rooms are located on the top floor of E Block. All members of the Department are totally committed to ensuring that pupils achieve to the best of their ability in this important core subject. There is always someone available outside lesson time to help any pupils that are struggling with a particular aspect of their work.
All classrooms are equipped with Interactive Whiteboards. ICT software is used extensively within lessons. This aspect provides great motivation and challenge to pupils of all abilities. Regular revision sessions are organised throughout the week for Year 11 pupils in preparation for their GCSE examinations.
The popular "24 Game" is played and yearly competitions take place not only within our school but also with our local feeder primary schools. The more able pupils take part in individual and team challenges against other schools at a national level.
